The Pittsford Community Library has a wide variety of engaging programs coming up for all ages and interests. Here are some highlights for February, with program descriptions and registration notes.

Flight to Freedom: Rochester's Underground Railroad

Saturday, Feb. 14, 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Flight to Freedom: Rochester’s Underground Railroad
Get to know abolitionists who called Rochester home, their paths to freedom, and examine our city’s position during this pivotal period of American history. Presented by educators from the Rochester Museum and Science Center. For adults and teens. Registration recommended.

Sunday, Feb. 15, 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Our Last Walk Home: Love, Cancer, and the Agony of Letting Go
Join us for a heartfelt talk with local author Jennifer Sanfilippo, whose book Our Last Walk Home: Love, Cancer, and the Agony of Letting Go chronicles her 30-year marriage and her husband’s cancer journey during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jennifer will share what led her to write this deeply personal story, how the process helped her heal from healthcare trauma, and how it ultimately guided her toward a new career as a grief and bereavement counselor and educator. The event will conclude with an open Q&A. Registration recommended.

Monday, Feb. 16, 10:30am – 12:00pm: All Ages Therapy Dog Visit
Drop in and enjoy spending time with therapy dogs! For all ages. Click here for more information.

Monday, Feb. 16, 4:00pm – 4:30pm: Crafty Book Buddies
Encourage a beginning reader and earn service credit by becoming a PCL Book Buddy! Teen volunteers will be paired with a buddy in grades K–3 to help build young readers’ skills. They will also provide crafting assistance. For grades 9–12. Registration required.

Tuesday, Feb. 17, 3:30pm – 4:30pm: Teen Community Service
Earn one hour of service credit while helping your library community. For grades 6–12. Registration required.

The Empowered Caregiver

Thursday, Feb. 19, 1:00pm – 2:00pm: The Empowered Caregiver: Building Foundations of Caregiving
The Alzheimer’s Association presents The Empowered Caregiver, a series that explores how to navigate the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia. This session focuses on the caregiver's role, the changes they may experience, building a support team, and managing caregiver stress. Registration recommended.

Thursday, Feb. 19, 3:00pm – 4:30pm: Paper Marbling for Teens
Learn to create marbled designs on paper using the provided tools and materials. For grades 6–12. Registration required.

Friday, Feb. 20, 10:30am – 11:30am: Spanish Story Time & Dance
Henry from Hipocampo will share stories and songs in Spanish and English. We will move and groove as Henry plays guitar! Kids of all ages welcome. Find out more about the event here.

Saturday, Feb. 21, 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Timepiece Tales
Unwind the story of clocks as it relates to the history of the United States, presented by Garth Brokaw, local timepiece enthusiast. Brokaw has spent 50 years collecting American-made antique clocks and timepieces from 1790 to 1929. On display will be 65–70 of these timepieces, representing a period in history when clocks were a luxury. Participants will also experience clock songs, trivia, poetry, and a trip back in time, tracing the history of timekeeping. Registration recommended.

Monday, Feb. 23, 6:30pm – 7:30pm: 10 Ways to Combat Climate Change
Sometimes we feel helpless in the face of changes driven by climate change. But with some small changes in our everyday lives, we can make an impact. Learn simple things that you can do today! Presented by the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Registration required.

Children's Book Club

Tuesday, Feb. 24, 4:00pm – 4:30pm: Kids Book Club
Love reading and want to talk about books with other kids? We will discuss Once Upon a Tim by Stuart Gibbs. Copies are available at the checkout desk. For grades 2–5. Registration is required for children.
