Assessments

It is the function of the Assessor’s Office to follow the NYS Real Property Tax Law. This requires us to maintain real property inventories, and set assessments on an annual basis, to insure the most equitable assessment possible. The Town assesses at 100% of market value.

Exemptions

All exemptions are part of, and administered according to, the NYS Real Property Tax Law.

Exemptions must be applied for and filed with the Assessor’s Office on or before March 1st in order to affect the applicable year’s taxes.

The most widespread residential exemptions are:

• RP-425 School Tax Relief (STAR) Exemption. 
  ◊ You must apply in the Town that you live in and not the School District.

• RP-458-a Alternative Veterans Exemption.
• RP-467 Senior Citizens’ Exemption.
  Note: This exemption is based on gross income including social security.
